The brief

At the World Internet Conference in Wuzhen, the goal was a first for China: an ultra-low-latency 8K remote live broadcast carried over 5G, sending a genuine 8K signal live from the venue to a remote reception point. Remote 8K is unforgiving — four times the data of 4K, delivered over the air, with latency low enough that the remote feed stays usable in real time. Get any part of the chain wrong and the picture stutters, drifts or drops, in front of a conference the whole industry is watching.

What we did

We deployed a true 8K camera chain at the venue and encoded the signal in real time with hardware tuned for ultra-low-latency 8K-over-5G, then carried it live to the remote reception point over a 5G link. A dedicated technical director managed the program feed while our engineers held redundant encoding and transport paths ready throughout, keeping end-to-end latency low enough for real-time remote viewing.The production ran in partnership with China Telecom, Ericsson and Sharp. Every element was tested and rehearsed in full 8K before broadcast, because a first-of-its-kind remote 8K link has to work the first time, live.

The result

China's first ultra-low-latency 8K remote broadcast over 5G — a stable, genuine 8K signal held between the Wuzhen venue and a remote reception point in real time. The same 8K program was down-converted simultaneously to 4K and HD so every screen received the best feed it could show, and the 8K masters were retained for on-demand and display use. The broadcast proved that true remote 8K over 5G was ready for a live, high-profile stage, and gave the conference a concrete demonstration of the very connectivity it exists to discuss.
