The brief
A European automotive brand was unveiling a new model at a major Shanghai auto show. Their communications team needed two things from press day: clean multi-camera coverage of the press conference itself, and a cut-down highlight edit in the hands of their press office fast enough to feed international media while the reveal was still news. The brand's agency was in Europe, working overnight relative to Shanghai — so waiting for footage to travel home for editing was not an option.
What we did
We covered the press conference with four cameras: a locked wide, a tight camera on the podium, a roaming camera for the reveal moment and executive walk-down, and a fourth on the audience and media scrum. Our audio engineer took a clean feed from the stand's PA alongside our own microphones, so the executive remarks were usable without post-production rescue work.
The reveal is a one-take event — the covers come off once. We rehearsed camera positions against the stand's run of show the evening before and coordinated timings with the stand production team in Chinese, while the brand's communications lead briefed us in English through our bilingual producer.
The differentiating piece was the edit. An editor worked on site from the moment the press conference ended, cutting reveal moments, executive soundbites and vehicle beauty shots into a highlight edit delivered to the press room the same day. Full ISO and program files went to the brand's European post-production team overnight for their own longer-form use.
The result
The brand's press office had a broadcast-quality highlight edit on press day itself, in time for the international news cycle, with b-roll available for media requests on the spot. The complete rushes arrived with their agency in Europe before their working day began. One local crew, one English-speaking point of contact, and no footage sitting in a suitcase waiting for a flight home.
